Multiple OneNote Icons in Notification Area

Occasionally in the notification area, instead of one OneNote Icon, I
see two. This has always happened after booting the computer. I don't
usually shut this notebook computer down, instead just putting it into
hibernation when I power it down. But when I do shut down Windows,
when I restart I occasionally see that an extra OneNote Icon has
appeared.

I fix it by right-clicking each Icon and removing it. Both of them.
Then I open OneNote and turn the notification icon back on. I suppose
I could just remove one of the OneNote icons but without knowing if
there are any differences between the two, I just close them both.

I haven't tested each of the extra OneNote icons to see if they all
function. I'm not sure if this is really a OneNote issue or whether
it's a Windows issue. In either case, it's a fairly trivial, mostly
cosmetic problem.

Has anyone observed or reported this?

Hi,

The cause is, I suspect, that you have told Windows to start OneNote
Quick Launch in two places.

Next time this happens take a look in Task Manager and see if there
are two copies of onenotem.exe running.

If there are two copies, then you need to go looking for where you are
telling Windows to start more than one copy.

One possibility to investigate is that you have the OneNote Quick
Launch program (onenotem.exe) present in the Startup folder for All
Users and also have it in the Startup folder for the user that you are
logged on as.

I investigated and that is indeed the cause. There was an entry in the
All Users folder and also in my user folder. I deleted the superfluous
shortcut.

I wonder how it got that way since as far as I know no one has
bothered those entries since setup ran. I'm also wondering why it
didn't happen every time the computer was rebooted. It may be that the
notification tray was hiding the duplicate most of the time.

In any case, problem solved. Thanks.

I had two icons after installing OneNote, then immediately installing the
service pack.
I right clicked one of the icons and selected "Remove OneNote Icon" and I no
longer have two icons showing up, just one.
