Multiple page numbers

I have an 8 1/2 x 11 inch page in portrait mode and I draw
an imaginery line across the middle. So I have two
sections--a top and bottom. Each of these sections contain
two columns. Is there a way to make the top half page 1
and the bottom half page 2, etc. I've tried inserting a
section break but that didn't work. Any suggestions.

Yes, it's one of the underpublicized new features in Word 2000/2002 that
can be very handy. I've used it only once, for name badge inserts (making 3"
x 4" inserts from 4" x 6" cards), but it was just the ticket for that, too.
