I have read other posts stating that MS doesn't support LAN/WAN access for
..pst files. I also understand that if you do this, only one workstation can
access the .pst at a time, and the possibility of file corruption.
Although I would not recommend this in an office environment, it has been
working for me in my home environment. Luckily, I only had one .pst file
corruption over the last 10 years, and I do backups.
My configuration is: Windows 2003 with a shared folder for my .pst file. Two
PCs running XP and OL2003. All working fine.
Now that I have purchased a new laptop with Vista and OL2007, I have pointed
OL2007 to my shared folder on my W2k box. It works. But, I have to enter my
credentials every time I start OL from Vista. After entering un/pw, all
works. If I startup OL again, I am not prompted. But if I startup OL the
next day, I am prompted.
My question is, how to avoid this prompt everytime? I don't have this issue
with my XP/OL2003 boxes. Second question, what is the alternative? Exchange
is a little overkill (and pricey). I just want to share folders, address
book, rules, and use an email client (no web-based). (btw, rules keep
resetting when I switch between accessing different OL, but I can live with
that.)
