Multiple PMs Accpeting Resource Updates

M

M Colodzin

I have a need to establish two project managers for the same project. These
PMs need to be able to accept/reject and process updates from resources along
with the standard project and resource changes.

I know how to establish the permissions that would allow other PMs to access
and update the project, however, I have not been able to figure out how to
enable the other person to view and accept updates from resources.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

You can only have one PM serve as the Status Manager per task. If you
wanting to have multiple PMs per task, this is not possible. Otherwise,
each PM needs to open the project, apply a task View such as the Gantt Chart
view, and then insert the Status Manager column. Each PM needs to specify
him/herself as the Status Manager for the tasks he/she will manage, then
save and publish the project. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale. Not what I wanted to hear, but at least I know the limitation.

Is this the same in both Project Server 03 & 07?

The status manager field is not available in 2003, but the principle of one
PM applies not just to Project Server, but also to best practice Project
Management theory.

Technically speaking, in Project Server 2007, you can have only one Status
Manager per task. In Project Server 2003, however, you can have a different
Manager for each resource assignment on a task. In 2003, the PM must
navigate to the Task Usage view in Project Professional 2003 and select the
resource assignments then he/she wants to manage. He/she must then click
Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments, select the "Become the
manager for these assignments" option, and then click OK to publish the new
assignment information. This means that if three resources are assigned to
a task, each resource's assignment on that task could have a different
Manager, each of whom must do the above operation.

So, from a purely technical level, the two versions of the software handle
this issue a little different from one another. On the other hand, you
cannot have more than one Status Manager on a task in 2007, or more than one
Manager on a resource assignment in 2003. So, I think my original answer
stands, but thanks for trying! :) Hope this helps.
