Hello,

About the past month or so, I started getting Login and System errors randomly in entourage 08. My account is set up fine, as I can send and receive mail, but these errors happen and sometimes cause me not to receive email for up to an hour, if I don't notice them and manually send/receive. It's an IMAP account through gmail. Errors below:

System Error 40if10106349aga.22

System error (Failure)

System Error

Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password

Is this a google problem? or is entourage not handling something properly? This happen in multiple locations as well, not just at home or work.

Thanks,

JC

About the past month or so, I started getting Login and System errors randomly
in entourage 08.

Random problems are hard to diagnose, but when they are Send & Receive
that's even harder.

To deal with the system errors, let's first try downloading and running the
combo updater. A combo updater is always recommended rather than using the
incremental updater available via Software Updater. It goes back and
refreshes files that could be corrupted.

Combo updaters will install on the same version as they¹re applying‹no need
to roll back or do a clean install.

Leopard:

Before installing, Log out/in with Shift key down to disable all startup
items. Run installer and it will restart your computer. Some users have
reported a double restart.

Note: Some users have had to do an "Archive & Install" to fix their
problems. It's not that bad and the last time I had to do this the only
software I had to reinstall was my Microsoft keyboard software.
Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password

This one is really common.

Open Keychain Access application in Applications/Utilities folder. Run
Keychain First Aid. It's in the Keychain menu under Keychain Access. This
might fix the problem, if not, delete the entry for that account.

Go to Entourage, select 'Accounts' from the Tools menu, choose the account
that was giving you trouble and delete that account. You should now be able
to create a new account and enter the correct information. Type carefully.
If you paste don't include spaces.

The password should now stick.

Thanks for the response, but I'm not a huge fan of re-installing things, especially since this was a fairly fresh install (And that I'm a Linux/Mac sort of guy) . I made one change that seems to have taken care of the problem. The account was already set up to use SSL for SMTP, but I selected the override default SSL port and set it to the standard port of 465.

I haven't had the problem since. Does Entourage use a different standard port for SSL SMTP?

Thanks,

JC
