Multiple rebuilds

I'm totally puzzled by what's going on with Entourage. Three times in the
past couple weeks Entourage encountered corruption and required a rebuild.

I'm running a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo, OS X 10.5.5; lots of RAM and HD space,
the latest Office 2008, and a database file in the 1GB to 2GB range.

Ideas? Thanks in advance.

I've seen reports of database corruption on 2008 Identities that were
imported. In cases like this, you need to manually move into a new Entourage
2008 Identity.

How to manually move your data. (when import fails and/or you need to move
to a new Identity same version or revert to an older version)

Diane,

I did what you suggested. First time for me to export and import a whole 1GB
to 2GB database. It's not fast and really requires add'l work on rules,
server setup, alarms, sigs, etc.

Also, the file size dropped 250MB. I find this curious since the file has
been through several full rebuilds.

Anyway, I'm mostly back to normal and now hope the corruption stops.

When you rebuild, the database does not change size, but reuses the space.
That's why you are seeing a drop in size for the database.

More info on size:
The database will be left with 'wasted' space in it every time you delete
something. However, this is not all bad, since the wasted space is used up
with new data as it is added. This way, over a period of time (assuming that
you are deleting stuff as you go) the database will probably reach an
optimum size, after which the stuff you delete is roughly equal to the stuff
you add, and no further growth takes place.

The Rules and Sig file can be copied over from one Identity to another, but
each Rule will have to be reset for folder destination.

Glad things are better. Let us know if you continue to have problems.
