Multiple Resources – Linked and Leveled Tasks

I have a project with roughly 400 individual strings of subtasks. There are roughly 10 activities in each string of subtasks. There is one Ultra-Critical Resource loaded activity in each string that must be leveled so that this resource finds 100% allocation out to the end of the year. All of these 400 have the same resource. If these 400 tasks are the only resource loaded activities in the schedule the leveling works beautiful.

I have a second activity in each string that is a predecessor to the “Ultra-Critical†activity that I need to Resource Load. I have baselined the schedule with the secondary activity un-resource loaded and constrained “As Soon as Possibleâ€. When I have gone into the schedule and loaded the secondary activity with it’s resource and leveled, the results are ridiculous. The “Ultra-Critical†as well as the secondary activity is moved to completely silly dates.

Ideas?????

Hi JTH,

It depends what 'completely silly dates' are.
If these are dates in 2049 I have some ideas, yes.
But if they are just a bit later than your expectations that can be just an
overload in your schedule.
Meanwhile look for the following:

- A same resource may not be assigned to both a summary task and one of its
subtasks;
- Avoid leveling resources with a limited availability period. If any work
for such one is pushed beyond teh end of its availability date it is pushed
into december 2049.
