Multiple resources with different allocations on a single task

Devin

I have multiple resources with different allocations on a single task and
would like them all to work from the start date to finish date at their
individual rates. However, Project has is evenly splitting the total work and
thus the less allocated resource has become critical path.

Example:
Task: Testing
Resources: Tester [40%], Advisor [10%]
Work: 5 days

Expected Result:
Duration should be 10 days because a total of 50% resources are assigned)

Actual Result:
Duration is 25 days because the less allocated resource is assigned 50% of
the work, and taking 10 times as long as half the work (2.5 days x 10).

Is there a way to have project redo the work assignment calculation to
spread the work based on allocation and not just evenly across resources? It
does this if I set the resources with their allocations at the onset, but not
as I've gone in and made changes as the project has been defined. I have a
ton of tasks and don't want to have to manually update all of them.

Hi Devin,

You can have this result (with the default effort driven on setting) if you
assign 1 resource (will give 12,5 d) then the other one on top.

That allows me to do it with a new task, but I have over 600 tasks with these
issues scattered throughout.

I've discovered that I can correct it by 1) copying the resources column
data, entering a new resource at the first task and filling down to all tasks
to replace everyone, and pasting back in the resources, 2) copying and
pasting the work back in from a copy of the plan, and 3) copying and pasting
the % complete in from a copy of the plan. Summary tasks with resources act a
bit oddly, but they can be cleaned up manually without much effort.

Thank you for your quick reply.

I forgot a few presteps to this.

select all tasks and make them all effort driven, constraint type: as soon
as possible, and task type: fixed work.

Thanks for pointing out effort driven.
