Multiple Sessions of Word Opening

D

Dante MCSA

I don't have an actual error message in MS Word 2000 (PC),
however, when I try and open multiple files in MS Word it
opens another session of MS Word instead of opening it in
the existing session of MS Word. Please help.

Thanks, Dante.

Hi Dante,

It isn't opening another instance, there is only one session of
Winword.exe running. As of Word 2000 the document interface changed to
a Single Document Interface (SDI) where each document will display as
a separate task in the Windows Taskbar.

Unfortunately an option to change the document interface so it
displays as a Multiple Document Interface (MDI - multiple document
appear in the same task) until Word 2002. However there is an add-in
available to rectify this problem.

For more on what you are encountering and a link to the add-in take a
look at:
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Customization/SDIMDI.htm

BUT, I will confess I hated SDI at first but have now come to like it
once I became accustomed to it and miss it when I switch to Word 97.
:)
