multiple slide masters

Melissa

I've read a couple of the posts in the message board and found out that each
document can only use one set of slide master/ title master.
However, i discovered that I can set up a master and create multiple custom
masters (and rename them too).

My question is:
What is the purpose of allowing multiple customer masters if only 1 can be
used in each document? Or are the previous posts wrong?

Ideally, I would like multiple masters to be made available for different
pages of the same document.

Melissa,

Mulitple master capability is only available in PPT v2002/2003, so the
previous posts were probably referring to v2000 and older. The capability is
a fabulous addition to the capabilities of PowerPoint.

Once you've created your muliple masters and named them (in Slide Master
mode, right click on the master, select Rename), click the Design button in
your Formatting tool bar (typically near the upper right side of your
screen). A Task Pane will appear to the right of your screen. Click the drop
down menu of the new master you want to select, click Apply Selection. Now
the new design you created in your master will be applied to that slide.
Repeat with your other masters.

Let me know if this works.

Hi Sandy,
thanks for the tip that my customised masters appear in Design and NOT
Layout!

Have tried it out and it works like a charm!
Although would like to point out that if I want to apply the new design to
just one slide, I have to click the drop-down arrow for that design and
select "Apply to selection" (as per what you said). I cannot just click on
the design as that will change the whole document to the new design.

However, if I select multiple pages then click on the new design, it will be
applied to just those selected slides.

I know this sounds like common sense but it took me a while to figure out
why I couldn't just click on the design for just one slide (didn't read your
response thoroughly as well! :p )
