Multiple top level folders - deleting

D

David

Hi,
This has probably been answered before, but I can't find a solution
searching though the archives.

In Outlook 2007, I have 2 profiles, one from work and one personal. In my
personal profile, the .pst file is stored on an external drive. I've managed
to get 3 top-level folders, 2 called 'personal folders' and one (the only one
I want) called 'personal outlook'. If I sync, my mail goes to the top
'personal folder inbox and not to the inbox listed under 'personal outlook'
where I want it. The personal folders can't be deleted. How do I clean this
up?

Thanks in advance for the help.
David

The easiest way to fix is with a new profile - but you can try editing the
registry. See http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/ghosts.htm.

FWIW, having the pst on the external drive may be the cause.

Diane,
Thanks for the tips. I don't think the external drive is the cause - it's
worked fine for years having the pst file there and the ost file/profile on
the C drive. What happened was I opened the personal profile without having
the external drive connected, then connected it when outlook said it couldn't
find the file, then opened the file I thought it was. So maybe i picked the
wrong file.

I'd hate to create a new profile and have 2 now - but I can selectively
import into the new profile, right? Just the folders and subfolders from the
old profile I want through an export, yes?

Thanks

Having the pst on the external drive and not having it connected can corrupt
profiles. Disconnecting before closing outlook can corrupt the pst.

I would try the methods in the link I provided - if it doesn't work, make a
new profile and hook the old pst to it. Do not import. See the bottom half
of http://www.outlook-tips.net/beginner/2007_profile.htm. You can delete
the corrupt profile once you no longer need it.
