Multiple users working on the same file simultaneously.

The feature I want to see in the next Office is a way for two people to have
the same document open at the same time and be both actively updating at the
same time, with both people able to actively see what the other is doing.
That way I could be working on one part of the document while someone else is
working on another sheet/page or area of my sheet/page. The key would be
that as the file expands or contracts, my focus would remain unchanged. If
someone is typing at the top of a document then mine shouldn't start
scrolling. The problem is how would you define areas of work, maybe you
could open the document as a "multiple user" from the Office program. Then
you would have to define your area of work before beginning to edit. You
should be able to change your area whenever you want as long as the other
user(s) don't currently control that area. If someone else does control that
area then maybe you could send a message to him or her so you could ask them
to release whatever you wish to update. It’d be like a shared desktop with
messaging. This would be a great feature for businesses that use shared
drives. You don’t know how many times this would have come in handy for me
in the past. I think this would probably work best for Word and Excel.

This really has nothing to do with the Office Update newsgroup.

J Fields,

If you're using the web suggestion feature in Office Communities, you can
re-post this as a suggestion to the microsoft.public.office.misc newsgroup.
