I have a mix of office 97 pro, 2000, and xp apps running on windows 2000 and
windows xp systems. The general rule I have been following is to install
from oldest to newest.
here are my components. (we have stand alone versions of outlook and access
obviously or I would just upgrade all to the latest versions)
Office 97: Word, Excel, Powerpoint
Office 2000: Outlook
Office XP: Access
I have not been installing the full office 97 and then choosing to 'upgrade'
when installing Outlook 2000 or 'upgrade' when installing Access XP(2002).
Instead I only install the components from Office 97 that I don't have a
later version of. Then I install Outlook 2000 as a new installation.. and
Access XP as a new installation, since there are no previous versions
installed.
1) I just noticed when doing this today that the default install path for
Outlook 2000 (office 2000 setup program) is the SAME install path where
office 97 is. Is that a problem? I have done this on previous machines and I
don't recall encountering problems? are there any known issues with that?
2) Is it ok to accept the default install locations when installing newer
office components (that you don't have previous versions already installed
of) even though older versions of OTHER office components may reside there?
any info is appreciated.
thanks.
