Multiplying cells

Hi - This is driving me crazy and I know it's probably a
very simple answer. I have created a chart that has
Amounts in column B and Cost Per in column D with the
Total Cost in column E. I want to multiply columns B and
D and put that in column E. I want to use that formula
for the entire column E. I cannot seem to do it. The
formula won't paste right. Or the formula will work for
one row....but only once. When I change the numbers in
columns B and D, the total should also change in column E
but doesn't. PLEASE HELP!! I need this for one of my
clients.

Thanks
Lisa

I'm not sure that I follow. You're saying that you've got a chart, but your
subject implies a function and this is the functions NG. Could you post
your formula? In cell E1 it should just be =B1*D1 from what my
understanding of the below. You can then drag this formula down in Column E
to apply the same relative formula to other cells.

I'd also check and make sure that you haven't got some strange cell
formatting in columns B, D or E in instances where the formula isn't
applying as you'd like. Perhaps use the format painter from a known "good"
cell in Cllumn B to others cells in B and likewise for columns D and E.

I would also make sure that you don't have manual
calculation of cells active - click Tools->Options->
Then click "Calculation" tab and make sure "Automatic" is
checked, not "Manual"
