Music doesn't play at all even though it is embedded

I have PPT 2007. I have followed the tutorials EXACTLY as in the following
article:
Play sounds across multiple slides (A WAV runs through it)

Yet I have no sound at all. I have changed the max size to 50000 on PPT
advanced options, and my sound file is smaller than that. Also, my sound
file is in the same folder as my PPT file.

HELP! This is a slideshow for my best friend's funeral on Saturday.

Because you indicate that it is embedded, that it is a WAV file. How did you
insert it into your presentation? What program plays it outside of
PowerPoint?

(1) Is the sound a WAV file?
(2) Did you change the setting to 50000 BEFORE inserting the sound (or
delete the sound and reinsert it after changing the setting)?
(3) Does it play if you simply insert it on a slide, rather than trying to
get it to play across multiple slides?
(4) Do you have other sounds in your presentation?

Michael: I play the wav file with Windows Media Player. On my first slide, I
inserted the file by clicking on the Insert tab, then Sound, then Sound from
File, then selected the wav file from my powerpoint folder.

I embedded the file by choosing Sound, then Sound from File, then selecting
the file from my PPT folder. I use Windows Media Player to play the WAV file.

Does that mean that you didn't follow these instructions in the article you
quoted?

* Go to the first slide (or the slide where you want the sound to start
playing)
* From the Slide Show menu, select "Slide Transition"
* In the "Sound" field select the sound you want to use (scroll to the
bottom of the list box and click "Other Sound ..." to choose a WAV file
other than the ones in the list)
* Put a checkmark next to "Loop until next sound"

Given the steps you list, you should be able to play the sound, but it might
not play automatically (i.e., you might need to click an icon), and it won't
play across multiple slides.

3 If I double click on the megaphone the sound plays. However, if I try to
watch the slideshow, it does not play.
4 There are no other sounds.

Where did you get the WAV, Dawn? I wonder if it's got DRM (digital rights
management) embedded. If so, then it won't play in PPT.

What do you want to have happen? Do you want:

(1) The sound to play automatically on one slide?
(2) The sound to play across multiple slides?
(3) The sound to play when clicking the icon in slideshow view?

When you first insert a sound, it usually asks if you want it to play
automatically or on click. If you chose the wrong thing, you can change it
in the animation settings. If you want it to play across multiple slides,
you should see my other answer in this thread.
