MVPs: Access97 Security?

This is definitely a question for the MVPs...

I am running Access97 on Windows98 on a single PC at home.
I have set up Access security via a dedicated workgroup admin file.

I have a particular database containing online account login UserID
and Password details, e.g. for online banking, share-trading, etc.
I keep this DB on a removable Zip disk, which is itself password
protected. The Zip disk is stored in a "hidden" location elsewhere on
my property, well away from my PC. Hopefully, this provides a pretty
good level of security for this particular DB.

However, it is rather inconvenient having to load the Zip disk, unlock
it and then run the DB from there. Ideally I would prefer to have it
sitting permanently on my PC, but I am concerned about the absolute
security if my PC were to be stolen, for example.

Just how good is the Access97 security (assuming it has been fully
implemented as best as it can be)?

Not good enough for that. Anyone who wants to spend a little money can get hacking
software for Access. In addition, if you are not encrypting the file some of the
data could probably be seen with a simple editor program.

The DB has been encrypted, which helps.

Access security is as good as the lock on your front door. It will keep out
all honest people and all people who don't have enough knowledge to pick a
lock. Access security cannot stop dedicated hackers.
