MVP's Please help!!!! Project guide is disabled!!!

Hello.

I have MS Project pro 2007 installed on an EPM 2007 farm.

When I start Project Pro, unfortunately the Project Guide pane does
not appear for me!

When I goto Tools=>Options=>Interface, under project guide settings,
the
display project guide checkbox is checked but greyed out!

I wonder why is this disabled (Checked but greyed?)

Upon further investigation. When I goto View, there is an option to
turn project guide on. After turning that
on, nothing happens. No project guide pane appears.

How do I get this project guide pane?

Thanks

Hi epm,

Have you tried detect and repair?

On the Interface tab I assume you have the following options
selected?

"Use the Microsoft Office Project Default page" and "Use the
Microsoft Office Project default content"

Do you have the latest service pack installed -- SP-1 plus the IU?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi Julie,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes the option "Use the Microsoft Office Project Default page" and
"Use the Microsoft Office Project default content" has been checked.
And we have SP1 with recent Infrastructure updates loaded!

But still the same problem persists. I checked with one more user in
the farm with administrator rights as myself and he too faces the same
problem! Note that we normally get a sms push to install Project Pro
2007 which recently I had instaled.

I also checked the "gbui" folder in local registry to check the value
and it is correctly set to "0".

What could be the problem? I am in deep trouble as I need the Project
Guide to train customer step by step!

Also, Macro options (from tools-->>macros) are disabled!!

Will appreciate your prompt help Julie.

Thanks

Hi epm,

If all users in your group are experiencing the same problem I would
have to guess that there is an error in the installation package
somewhere. Is this a new problem -- it worked before and has
stopped?

Have you tried detect and repair on the installation?

I had trouble with the Project guide in a beta version and I was
directed to exit project, find and rename the Global.mpt file and
re-start project to recreate the file.

**I suggest doing this ONLY if you have a safe method of
re-installing the software. **

Also, just my two cents -- I don't find the project guide helpful.
Everything the project guide "guides" you through can be done
without the guide and usually more quickly and efficiently.

Hi EPMFaq,

That is a nice name. Firstly this issue will be faced when MS Project 2007
is deployed through a package and all the required registry settings have not
been turned on.

To resolve this issue:

1. Install MS Project 2007 directly from the media on a client PC. Follow
default options. After installation you will see the Project Guide.

2. If you have a reg mon tool you can not the required registry setting
change. (This will be required when you deploy MS Project through package)

The project guide pane is important as it displays Task Drivers as well as
Project Deliverables information when you are using Deliverables in Project
Server 2007.
Let me know how you go>

Hope this helps.

Hello,

I was also facing the same issue.

Try repairing project 2007 professional installation by "checking" Office Shared Features. No SP1 required..
