MWord 2007 extremely slow to open files // freezes wildly // help

Jeb R.

Hello,

This is my first post, I hope I am posting it in the right forum.

I have a HP 6500 laptop. As a college student, my primary use of the laptop
is for writing; I have Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007. I am using
Microsoft Word 2007 on Windows Vista. Initially the program worked fine, but
five days ago it began "not loading." I use the phrase in quotes because it
eventually does load, after waiting between 5-10 minutes. Additionally, if I
try to open a saved document, it tells me that it cannot be found -- However,
if I open the Word program itself, wait ten minutes, then open the file from
the blank program, it will load. Often this is a struggle. Using such
features as HEADER or similar formating issues will cause Word to freeze and
not respond. This often corrects itself after waiting 5-10 minutes. The whole
process is aggravating and extremely frustrating, because writing a simple
letter often takes me an extra half an hour of waiting.

I have repaired, then when that failed, fully reinstalled Microsoft Office
Home and Student 2007. I have also downloaded all available and recommended
updates to no avail. I tried a Google search for the problem, but could not
find a fix. I am hoping some one can help me.

Thanks,
