My ü gets formatted with my Asian Language Font

(I have Word 2003 on Windows Vista SP2 with the Asian Language Pack for word
and SP3. My keyboard is set to Chinese language with German keyboard layout. )
Hello, lately whenever I type an ü in a word it gets incorrectly formatted
in the Asian Font SimSun and not the font of the rest of the text.
This leads to the word being marked as incorrect and the ü being displayed
in a different font. ä and ö have no problems.
Is there any way to correct this annoying problem? Any help would be
appreciated.

That happens to me with a-macron. The only thing I've been able to
discover about when it happens is that it always happens when there's
a selection with more than one font (perhaps a letter plus a floating
diacritic). I have found no solution -- I just have to fix the font
afterward.

This problem might be happening because you are using a Latin font that
doesn't contain a ü character. Or, possibly, because you are using an Asian
font that doesn't handle ü correctly.

This might help:
1. Boot Word.
2. Go to Format...Font in the menu
3. Change "Latin Text Font" to "Times New Roman", "Ariel", "Verdana", or
another extremely common font.
4. Click on the "Default..." button.
5. Click "Yes" on the popup.

Another alternative is to change your "Asian Text Font" to "MS Gothic." MS
Gothic seems to be one of the few fonts that handles both Chinese and German
relatively well.

I don't use fonts that don't have Latin Extended-A, and I'm not using
an Asian font.

My default is TNR.
