My Autotext Died

All of a sudden my autotext died. For example, I type Octob and
nothing happens (other entries not working also). The box is checked
under AutoText and Document Map has been turned on and off (saw that
in an old post). I have deleted normal.dot several times. Autotext
has been associated with Normal.dot and All Active Templates. It just
doesn't work. Any ideas? Thanks.

It is Microsoft Word 2000. Thank you.

Can you still insert AutoText using F3? If the entries are still present, it
would appear that it is AutoComplete that is failing. Are you *positive*
that the AutoComplete box is checked?

I am absolutely sure, if it is the checkbox under AutoText which says:

"Show AutoComplete tip for AutoText and dates" <---this box it checked
(have checked and unchecked, rebooted, etc. just doesn't do what it
says)

If this is not it, then no, I am not sure.

I can still use F3, I just don't get a tip. I tried hitting tab or
return where the tip usually would pop up to see if the AutoText entry
would work anyway, but it does not. In other words, I have to know
the AutoText is there to use F3 instead of it automatically happening
like it was (and I could just hit Tab to make the AutoText entry
appear).

I have done the repair (not reinstall) and deleted normal.dot many
times. No avail.

Thanks.

I forgot to add that I have done the rename to normal.old and copy the
good normal.dot AutoText words (via Template Add-in, Organizer) and
this too failed.

Is it just October you are having problems with or is it all AutoText
entries?

If you have more than one AutoText entry with the same first four
characters then the AutoComplete tip will not display until you type
the first unique character.

If it is just the date you are having problems with then check your
date formats in the Regional Settings in your Control Panel.

That's the check box I'm talking about and it sounds as if you're doing
everything right. I confess I'm stumped.

The only thought I had (and immediately dismissed as illogical) was that it
might have something to do with the language of the text, a thought that
seems somewhat confirmed by the KB article "WD2000: AutoComplete AutoText
Tip Does Not Appear for Enabled Foreign Language"
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=220247). So the only further thing I can
suggest is that you check to see what language is set for the text in
question (select text, then go to Tools | Language | Set Language).

Thank you for your help. I will try this and see. If not, I guess
I'll have to uninstall and reinstall. And to the other poster, yes,
it is all of them, not just October. Thanks again.
