My background disappears when I print preview

Sorry if this is a dumb question...

I re-sezed a page layout to be business card size. I'm trying to send it to
a printer, but when I convert to PDF or hit "print preview" my background
color is gone.

If you used Format | Background, you were applying a background that applies
only to a Web page (you may have noticed that Word switched into Web Layout
view). In Word 2003 you *can* print this by checking the box for "Background
colors and images" on the Print tab of Tools | Options; in earlier versions,
it will be much more involved.

To add a printable "background," use Format | Background | Printed
Watermark. If you're creating a sheet of business cards, see

In that case, you want Page Layout | Page Background | Watermark (rather
than Page Color).
