My Backspace key no longer deletes text

Hi,

Can someone tell me how to fix this? In Outlook and Word, I no longer can:

- Highlight a word and start typing to replace it.

- Use the Backspace key to delete text.

I don't know what happened, but this is driving me crazy. I searched all
over help and found no help at all.

In Word, click on Tools | Options | Edit | check the "Typing
replaces selection" box | OK. If you're using Word as your email
editor in Outlook, then you won't have to do anything extra to
fix the problem in Outlook.

Oh my gosh, you don't know how much time I spent on this.

There must be some key combination that sets/unsets this. I inadvertently hit
this today and was happy to find this fix. Last time this happened I gave up
and had to live with the bad behavior for months until my computer died!
