My CD Rom will not work

I need to get a new CD-RW/DVD Rom drive for my daughters HP Pavillion because
it is not reading the cds correctly. Can I just buy an external drive instead
of taking it to a computer shop to have an internal put in? This would be
alot easier I would think, but I did not know if this would be the compatible
thing to do. Please advise me on this. My operating system is Windows XP.

Since you posted this in a Macintosh Office newsgroup, and it has
nothing to do with Macintosh nor Office, I'm not going to be definitive,
but I'd suspect there'd be some benefit to your taking it to the
computer shop - if any system adjustments need to be made: drivers,
etc., they can make sure they work correctly.

In most cases, though, Windows XP will handle installing drivers for
you. It's likely that an external drive would work fine simply by
connecting it.

Thanks, I don't know how I got into the Mac Office. I thought I was in
Windows XP General Discussion.
