My chosen default font is NOT what shows up when I click Format Fo

Using Word 2003, SP2. I choose a default font, say, Arial 11. When I click
Format Font or press Ctrl-D to change a block of text to, say, subscript, the
font that is highlighted in the list is NOT Arial, it's Helvetica, and if I
don't change it EVERY TIME, the Helvetica takes over the block of text. WHY?
HOW can I get control of the default font, and HOW can I make the font list
default to what I have chosen?

Our Power Users here are stymied. This does not happen to them! It only
happens on my own computer. WHY?

Well, at a certain level you can't change the Default Paragraph Font. When you
change the "default font" what you're actually doing is setting the font for the
NORMAL style, that will be inherited by other styles. The "deep down" default
font is Times New Roman 12.

However, displaying the Format/Font dialog box should display the font of the
current selection, in any case? Is that what's happening? Is the font where the
IP is currently formatted as Helvetica?

You might take a peek in Tools/Options/Compatibility/Font Substitution.
Something might be going on in there.
