Help!

I have been working on a lengthy document in Word. One day when I was
proofreading and working on a TOC, the document suddenly became double space.
When I checked the formatting it is still listed as single spaced, but looks
and prints in double space. How can I fix this.

Thanks!

Check the space before and after your paragraphs, not your line spacing.
Format | Paragraph | make sure the space before and after is set to zero.

Carol,

Thank you so much for the tip about spacing. I don't really understand the
"what" of what happened, but your suggestion worked. Thanks.

Likely a combination of the bug that causes the Normal style to be set to
update automatically (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/WholeDocumentReformatted.htm) and
inadvertently pressing Ctrl+0, which adds 12 points Spacing Before to a
paragraph. I suggest you investigate the first problem because, if it hasn't
been corrected, it will come back to bite you whenever you apply any kind of
direct formatting to any paragraph.
