My enter key is tabbing

I rested my right hand on my keyboard and inadvertently hit a bunch of keys.
Now my enter keu will tab over instead of starting a new line. If I tab a
couple of times, it will jump to the next line, but will have a slight indent
(which I never set). This does not happen when I'm typing online. I was
using word 2003. I tried rebooting and there's no change.

Has anyone ever encountered this before? I tried a few key combinations,
but I can't seem to get my enter button back.

I can't recall having ever heard of anything like this, before...

If you hold down the Ctrl key when starting Word (to use Safe Mode) do the keys
behave as they should?

Thanks for the posts. The keys do seem to be working as they should when in
safe mode.

I checked for macros already and that wasn't the problem.

I really don't know what the issue is. I noticed that it doesn't happen all
the time though, just near my page breaks.

It may not be relevant, but note that the function of the Tab key can be
different depending on your setting for "Set left- and first-indent with
tabs and backspaces" in Tools | AutoCorrect Options | AutoFormat As You Type
(or the equivalent setting in other locations in versions before and after
Word 2002/2003).

That's strange... I would suspect an Add-in of some kind, in that case.

I'd like you to check for possible add-ins:

- Tools/Templates and Addins, the list in the bottom half of the dialog
box
- COM Add-ins: if you don't see this in the Tools menu you have to add it
from Tools/Customize/Commands, category "Tools". Drag it to the Tools menu and
drop it somewhere. Close the dialog box.

Try deactivating everything you find in these lists and see if the behavior
goes away. If it does, reactivate, one-by-one, until you find the problem.

There's a third place, if the above doesn't turn up anything. See this KB
article on how to access this information
