You don't specify how you are trying to read these files.
If you are using Word, WordPerfect, or some other word
processor, then you will probably find a better answer on
a forum dedicated to those programs. This one is for
Access, the database product from Microsoft.
If you are trying to read these in Access, then check to
make sure that your references are correct. Do a search
here for "references".
Also Word for Windows comes with a "conversion" library
which allows it to read many types of files. This may not
be installed on your new system (this is off by default in
the 'typical' installation). Try re-installing Word and
check that the conversion library gets installed as well.
