My free trial of Microsoft Office 7 doesn't seem to work, why?

I just installed the free trial and at the risk of appearing to be so not a
"geek" I need to know how to get this thing up and running!

You physically installed it (by double-clicking on the file you downloaded -
sorry to ask but there have been instances where people have thought that
just by downloading the file it would automatically install!), put in the
Product Key, and then Activated it?
