my mail disappears when I open my Inbox

I have numerous new unread messages in my Inbox. When I click on 1 of them
to begin reading, all the other messages disappear and I can't find them.
I don't have any message rules. What do I need to do so my mail stops
disappearing?

What view setting are you using on the Inbox? If you're not sure, make sure
the Advanced toolbar is showing, then look at the name in the View dropdown
box.

I have a similar problem but it is not the View setting, which is set for
"messages".
I'm using Outlook 2003. My problem is that new mail is not coming into my
InBox. It was working just fine, until two days ago, when I installed 7-zip
and used it to unzip some archived files I had requested. I'm not sure that
was the cause, just a coincidence. At first, after searching, I found my
incoming messages in a funny place, in Search Folders>Unread mail, but then I
tried to move them to my InBox but that didn't work. Later they disappeared
from my Unread mail folder but now they are coming in there again. How do I
force them to go to my In Box again, like they have been doing for years?

Unread Mail is not a real folder. It is a search context. In it, there is
an "In Folder" column that will show you what real folder the messages are
in. What does it say?

Later they disappeared from my Unread mail folder

That's because once you open them, they're not "unread" any more and so
won't appear in a folder of unread messages.
