My new Microsoft Office student and teacher edition 2003 will not work

J

Jennifer Lesar

I just installed the above product and XP home edition. I
had Office 95 on my computer. Because of the following
errors I have reinstaled word two times first as an
upgrade then as a complete instalation. When I open word
I get many error messages, they are:

Microsoft Visual Basic
Compile error in hidden module: Main32

I click ok.
Then Microsoft Visual Basic-Document1 [break] opens
When I exit out of visual I get:
This command will stop the debugger. (Ok, cancel or Help
[if help is selected then I get: This featurre is not
currently installed. Would you like to install it now?])
I say no and then click ok in on the debugger one.

Back in word..... IF I try to open something I get the
following: Microsoft Visual Basic, The macros in this
project are disabled. Please refer to the online help or
documentation of the host application to determine how to
enable macros. This same message appears if I try to
save.

When I try to exit word I get the following:
Microsoft Office Word, Do you want to save the changes
to GWNORMUS? I pick no. Then I get
Do you want to save the changes to PALMAPP? Again I say
no.

Then I get the macros one again.

I was thinking that my old office could be causing the
problem so I went into control panel, add and remove and
tried to remove it but it asks for the disk. I think I
have the right disk but when I put it into the cd drive.
And follow the on screen instructions I get an error say
it can not be completed.

Powerpoint is working properly. Excel is being weird, it
will open but will not save. The X do not work.

How do I fix my computer?

Hi, Jennifer. See item 4 in
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm. PALMAPP is an
add-in that lets you synchronize your PalmPilot with Word... if you don't
need this capability, move this file out of Word's startup folder. GWNORMUS
is an add-in for Novell Groupwise... I'm not sure why you would need this on
a home PC... if you're not using it, then you can move this file out of
Word's startup folder too. You see the "macros disabled" message because
Word 2003's default macro security setting is High, which disables all
macros. You probably shouldn't mess with this setting if you don't know what
macros are installed on your computer.
