My office is not working anymore

Hi,

I use W2000 professional on a DELL Laptop.
I bought this laptop from my company (now closed in
france) and I do not have the MS office CD installation.

I was attacked by the W32.blasterWorm which provokes the
issue with svchost.exe.

I manage to setup the W2000 SP4 (not with difficulties)
and the hotfix against the worm from Microsoft site. I
install also the Zone alarm firewall and everything is
fine.

Unfornately now, I can not use my office (Excel, Word,
Access, PowerPoint). "this application must be installed
to run". If I try to update with the latest version of
office, the version of my office is not recognized.

If someone has a solution to get back my office.

Hi Marc,

Search your local hard drive(s) for a file called
msiregmv.exe, run it, then test to see if your Office
problems persist.

msiregmv.exe migrates Windows Installer 1.x reg keys to
the new location for Installer 2.0. Win2000 SP4 updates
the Windows Installer to version 2.0 by running
instmsi.exe, which includes msiregmv.exe. If there is a
problem during the migration of the Installer keys, you
will experience symptoms similar to the ones you
described.
