Thanks Tony. I had just found 918165 and it looks like another fun time
provided by Bill.

We have struggled all day today, Tuesday 18/4/06 with our small network
of HP XP Pro machines & 1 x W2000 plus an old WMe laptop. Using shared
documents, we were unable to 'save-as' anything at all with MS WORD XP.
Normally, this is a seamless & fast process & essential to our daily
working as a PR agency in Manchester, UK. So, was it a VIRUS ? Had
we,somehow, lost our 'permissions' access, since when we looked at the
priviledges of the documents, all appeared to be 'read-only' & unable
to be changed. ?
After replacing all the s/w, cleaning the PC's, doing NORTON in 'safe
mode' , all the no avail we decided to remove the latest automatic
Microsft Updates (all our machines are set to do this) & auto updated
over the Easter holiday on 17/4/06 Once we had taken off KB 908531
things returned to normal. Eureka !!

You may want to put it back on, though. See if this helps:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165 ("Problems in Windows Explorer or the
Windows shell after you install security update MS06-015").
