my outlook 2003 has suddenly started opening very very slowly

All of a sudden, my outlook 2003 has slowed down while opening. I have no
clue why. It opens but takes its own sweet time, now. There is nothing that I
did that could have caused it.

Is there some way, I can make my system run a check on my outlook 2003
program?

Is there any way only the outlook 2003 can be uninstalled and reinstalled?
(I have an office 2003 CD)

Close Outlook. Find and rename outcmd.dat to .old. (If using Windows 2000
or XP, you will need to enable searching hidden and system folders.)

Once you have done so, reopen Outlook and it should open fine. You will
need to rebuild any custom toolbars or customizations as the file outcmd.dat
controls how the toolbars display. When it becomes corrupted, it will cause
Outlook to hang because it cannot create the toolbars that you expect.

Milly, thanks for the tip. I found the file and changed it's name as
instructed but it didn't help. Outlook opens but still slowly as previously.

try running scanpst on the data file (start menu, run, type scanpst and
follow the directions)

what types of accounts are in your profile?

Diane, thank you for the tip but I am a novice. When I try to run the
scanpst.exe, a pop-up says that it is an inbox repair tool and asks me to
specify the file I want scanned. I don't know what file has to be scanned.
What file has to be scanned? You have mentioned that it is a data file? what
file are you talking about? If it is outcmd.dat, i tried it and it says that
scanpst does not recognize the file.

It's your PST, normally located in the (hidden) folder %UserProfile%\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook on a WIndows 2000/XP system.
