My Outlook 2007 Journal Timer Does Not Start

I am using Outlook 2007 and when I create a new journal entry, the stop watch
graphics is greyed out. The Start Timer button is active, I can press that
and the Pause Timer appears but when stop watch shows no animation, is still
greyed out and when I save my entry and then open it again, the duration is
set to zero seconds.

Could someone help please?
