my outlook express pdf attachments open in Word scrambled?

My pdf attachments will now only open in a Word document and are not
readable. I upgraded to Adobe Reader 8 AFTER this started happening, as I
assumed my computer required the update and that is why it stopped working.
Any suggestions?

Word cannot open .pdf files. If Word launches when you double-click a
..pdf file, then you need to change the Windows file association for .pdf
files to launch with Adobe Reader instead of Word. See

associations in Windows XP". The process is similar in Windows Vista.
