I cannot access the application without it unexpectedly crashing. I cannot translate the report. Please advise.
This happened to me after trying to open a pptx directly from the email by double clicking on the attachment. After that it would not open no matter what and would just hang during opening. I found that holding the Shift key down while the program was opening worked and I have done that since. Don't know why, haven't seen reference to it on line, but it works, at least so far.

Holding the Shift key on launch is nothing but a troubleshooting technique,
it is NOT a fix. It allows the program to bypass startup options that would
otherwise be executed on launch. If the program runs OK using that method it
means that there is something interfering with the normal operation of the
program... And that "something" is still as faulty as ever.
Before anything else, confirm that both Office (11.5.6) & your unspecified
flavor of OS X are fully updated. Repair Disk Permissions using Apple's Disk
Utility app or comparable utility, then restart your Mac. If the problem
continues when you launch normally reply here with detailed information on
system, OS & Office specs for further suggestions.

I too am experiencing this problem on my Macbook Pro
I am running:
- Mac OS X 10.6.3
- Office:Mac 12.2.4
I have repaired disk permissions and restarted my Mac.
The symptom is that when powerpoint starts it either crashes straight away, or has the spinning beach ball of death, or crashes on exit. It is really inconsistent. (When testing again right now, I thought that it was working, but crash on quit.

Quit all programs, Launch Font Book & run its Resolve Duplicates & Validate
Fonts routines, delete the file Office Font Cache (12) located in
[User/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008], restart.

H-1B only jobs from numerous websites
I followed all the steps Bob outlined 5/15/10 post, for the first time
in over 1 year, PowerPoint actually opened. Sadly, only a few seconds
later, it crashed again.
Prior to today's failed attempt to run PowerPoint 2008 I've installed
every Microsoft update and even uninstalled PowerPoint, reinstalled it
from the original disk, and applied all of the Microsoft updates
again. Still crashes.
Can anyone successfully run PowerPoint on a Mac? Has Microsoft
pulled support for Office on Mac?
I've searched everywhere and unable to find an official Microsoft fix
to the PowerPoint 2008 problem?
I am college professor and teach college level students PowerPoint
credit classes. My students need to understand how to use PowerPoint
and many, many own Macintosh computers. If I can't resolve this issue
quickly I will be left with no option but Google Docs. Not only does
it work cross-platform, sharing files is a breeze.

in over 1 year, PowerPoint actually opened. Sadly, only a few seconds
later, it crashed again.
Prior to today's failed attempt to run PowerPoint 2008 I've installed
every Microsoft update and even uninstalled PowerPoint, reinstalled it
from the original disk, and applied all of the Microsoft updates
again. Still crashes.
Can anyone successfully run PowerPoint on a Mac? Has Microsoft
pulled support for Office on Mac?
I've searched everywhere and unable to find an official Microsoft fix
to the PowerPoint 2008 problem?
I am college professor and teach college level students PowerPoint
credit classes. My students need to understand how to use PowerPoint
and many, many own Macintosh computers. If I can't resolve this issue
quickly I will be left with no option but Google Docs. Not only does
it work cross-platform, sharing files is a breeze.

Perhaps we can help you out, but it would be best if you'd submit your own
new message rather than posting as a reply to another. This thread is
already intermingled with various combinations of Office (2004, 2008) & OS X
(10.5.x, 10.6.x), none of which correspond to yours. When you do, make
certain to give your exact specifications as well as your Mac system
hardware configuration... These lengthy error reports really don't help much
here but I do spot a couple of things which look out of kilter.
One concern is that despite your claim of having Office 2008 fully updated
the report indicates that it is at 12.2.3, but 12.2.4 actually is the
current level. The other is that the log indicates that your Mac has only
1GB RAM, which is barely enough to run PPT 2008 on Tiger even if absolutely
no other processes are active. That also suggests that free disk space may
be an issue - indicate how much free space you have when to post.
In the meanwhile;
1- Run PPT in a different (preferably new) User Account. Any difference?
2- Launch PPT in your regular account while holding Shift... What happens?
3- Log out, then log into your regular account while holding Shift. What
happens when you attempt to launch PPT?
Include those results along with the other requested info.
And 'Yes', I for one have been running PPT 2008 since the early Beta testing
on two separate Macs, 3 different editions of OS X without any such
problems. Hopefully, we can get you in the same situation
