My Project not Visible on Server?

C

Carl

We're all still extremely new to Project Server, so bear with me.

I created a project (using Project 2003) and added resources from Project
Server. I saved my project and published it to the server. I can browse to
the project server and see my project listed there under projects. I can
open it with the browser and view tasks in the browser.

However, if I use File-Open dialog from within Project 2003, I can see other
projects that are on the server; but I can't see my own project there. I
always have to select Open From File or Insert From File to edit or share my
local version of the project. How can I view/access the published version
of the project?

Any answers or advice are greatly appreciated.

You have made a huge mistake with Project Server, which is saving your
project as an .mpp file. Your Project Server administrator has also made a
huge mistake, which is allowing the publishing of non-enterprise projects.
Your Project Server administrator should immediately take the following
steps to reverse his/her and your mistakes with the system:

1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions
2. Click Admin - Server configuration
3. Select the "Allow only enterprise projects to be published to this
server" option
4. Click the Save Changes button
5. Click the Clean Up Project Server Database link in the sidepane on the
left
6. Select the "Projects and To-Do Lists" option
7. Select the "Delete the SharePoint team Web site for the specified
project" option
8. In the data grid, select the project that you saved as an .mpp file
9. Click the Delete button

After the Project Server administrator performs the above steps, you must do
the following.

1. Create Project Server login account in Microsoft Project Professional
completing all 10 steps in the following FAQ:

http://www.projectserverexperts.com/Shared Documents/CreatePMLoginAccount.htm

2. Import the .mpp project using Tools - Enterprise Options - Import
Project to Enterprise
3. In the Import Wizard, make sure that you match every resource in the
project with resources in the Enterprise Resource Pool
4. Click Collaborate - Publish - All Information
5. Click Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments

Hope this helps.

Dale,

Thanks for the instructions. It looks like this would make considerable
changes to most, if not all, of our existing projects. I've talked about it
with the server administrator (who is as clueless as I am for the time
being), and we agree that these are changes that we want to make. We'll
schedule the changes for late March.

Thanks again for the direction.

I think you are making a huge mistake in waiting until late March. If you
are saving your projects as .mpp files, then you simply are not using the
system correctly. I do not mean to offend you, but I do believe that you
folks need to learn a lot more about Project Server if you expect to use it
effectively. Refer to the following FAQ for information about training and
books on Project Server 2003:

Hope this helps.
