My Project Sharepoint Sites aren't searchable from Sharepoint Port

We have sharepoint portal 2003 and Sharepoint Services running on the same
server. Sharepoint Services was installed as part of the Sharepoint Portal
installation. All sites that are provisioned from the portal are indexed and
searchable. All sites that are created by Project Server (2003) however, are
not. Is there some special configuration that needs to be done so that the
project server sharepoint sites are index for searching from the portal?
We'd also like to be able to see the project server sites on the "sites" page
in the portal but we don't at this point.

Thanks

Did you perform the following steps with Project Server:

1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions
2. Click Admin - Manage Windows SharePoint Services
3. Click the Connect to SharePoint Portal Server in the sidepane on the
left
4. Click the Connect to portal site option on the right
5. Enter the Portal Web Address and Portal Name and then click the Save
Changes button

Let us know.

The SPS newsgroup at microsoft.public.sharepoint.portalserver

is full of questions (and answers) about "why is Search working for the
Portal Server part of my site and not for the WSS part"?

I suggest you search that newsgroup for those threads (as Project Server
2003 stores its stuff in the WSS part).

[Aside: you can't have " sharepoint portal 2003 and Sharepoint Services
running on the same server" as you then go on roughly to say what you
actually have is SPS 2003 (which *includes* WSS) running on the server.]

I'll check out the news group. Thanks for the suggestion.

In response to my environment, we are setup as you described. We have
sharepoint services running by virtue of our Sharepoint Portal installation.

I'll check back after I comb through the news group. Thanks again.

I looked through the news group but I'll have to admit I didn't have much
luck. If you were able to find one or two I'd sure appreciate a bit more
direction.

Thanks

This Google Groups search

seems to have a good relevant item at position 2 (and possibly at 1)

(Google Groups Advanced Search specifying the .portalserver newsgroup and
(all of) "search portal WSS")

Thanks for the link. I found some good info but in the end the folks say
each site created outside the portal needs to be registered/linked to the
site directory. I would hope that project server would do this automatically
each time it created a site. When project server asks for the portal address
and name what does it do with it? Is it supposed to register the sites with
the portal? If so, any thoughts on trouble shooting this?

No thoughts from me.

It's a Project Server thing it seems and I don't know that product that well
to comment.

(I only know the WSS part well)

You could at this stage usefully start a new thread concentrating on that
aspect rather than on the search aspect.
