my reading pane on 2007 wont work it is grey colour

for some unknown reason my reading pane has turned to a grey colour and i
cant get it to go can anyone tell me how to fix this please

Is this in any folder?
Does it work in Outlook Safe Mode?
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /safe
