My screen is full of grayish text and a bar down the side of text

I copied a section of text from the web and pasted it into Word 2007. Most of
the first screen is perfect, but the rest of the document has grayish text
and a bar down the left side of the page.

I haven't been using Word 2007 very long, but I do know Word 97.

Any ideas?

When pasting from the web you may want to paste as "Unformatted Text"; that
way, you won't get any "garbage" from the source. To find that option in
Word 2007, click the Paste button on the Home tab, and then click Paste
Special.

Note that if you also want to copy and paste one or more pictures, you can
do so separately, by right-clicking a picture and choosing Save Picture As
(if you are not using Internet Explorer the command might be slightly
different).
