My signature has strange characters in it??

I have created several signatures in my Outlook 2000 (XP machine)... However
now when I insert them into my message, these strange characters () appear
atop the signature... I have dealt with sigs. for years and have not seen
this... It started happening with a few of the new sigs. I created.. The
sigs. appear fine when I create them or edit them, but once they are inseted
those darn characters appear..
Can anyone shed some light on this problem?
