my slash key has turned to a French e- but only in word

How do I get my slash key back? I haven't set up any shortcuts. It happens
on both my laptop's keyboard AND the wireless keyboard that I use but only
happens in Word 2002. I have made NO modifications since the last time I used.

Have you checked Tools->Autocorrect to see if, somehow, the slash is being converted to
the character?

Yup- after I posted even though I didn't know what I was looking at at that
time. It doesn't appear there. I shut down my Word and re-started and the
slash was back- for about an hour. Then it left again and I had to go
through the process again. It's kept working for 3 hours now. I may have to
re-install word.
