My spell check thinks I speak German

Somehow my spellcheck changed into German and I am having problems getting it
back to English. I have reset the language to English but spell check
doesn't seem to work and the autotext suggestions are in German. How do I
get back to English?

My spell check doesn't think at all

Spell checking and AutoTexts are language dependent according to the
language of the text at the cursor. Word does have a tendency to change this
for reasons that are hard to determine. Select your whole document (Ctrl+A)
and set the language (Tools > Language > Language) to English and UNcheck
"detect language automatically". Also make sure y our Windows keyboard
language is set to Engllish.

that fixed it - thanks for all of your help. You are right - I have no idea
where the German came from.
