my spellchecker is not functioning!

My spellcheck and thesaurus are not functioning. I can get the spellchecker
to come up, and it will review the document for gramatical errors. However,
the spelling errors will not come up. And yes, the "hide spelling errors" IS
NOT selected! And I have already tried reinstalling the stupid program too!

Open a Word document where this occurs, press Ctrl+A to select
all of the text, click on Tools | Language | Set Language |
<choose your language> | uncheck the "Detect language
automatically" and "Do not check spelling or grammar" boxes |
Default | OK, and press F7 to rerun spellcheck. If you are
prompted to save changes to your Normal.dot global template, say yes.

I just tried that after reading the same response to other posts....it did
not work.

When I click on Spelling and Grammer (or hit f7) the first time after I open
the document...it has been--and still is after doing the Set Language thing--
gives me the following messages : "Word cannot find the grammer file
msgr??32.dll for ." Then I press "OK". Then another message "Word cannot
find spelling file MSSpell3.dll or mssp232.dll for ." Then I press "OK".
Then nothing happens.

What language did you choose when doing the Set Language thing?
And did you install the proofing tools for that language?

the boxes need to be completely empty...

thanks so much to garfield-n-odie...i just had the same problem (this has
never happened before), but after following all your suggestions, my program
has stopped giving me those two error messages with the lost spell check and
grammar files. (and of course dell was going to charge $99 to solve this
problem for me...)
