My tempalte not showing

D

David

I posted a template on 6/23/2009 and I can see it in "My Tempalte" view, but
when I browse or search it does not appear.

Is there something else that I need to do to make it active?

Is this delay normal?

Thanks

Check the status for your template. If it says something like "Pending" then
it will eventually be posted.

I finally found my template on a regular search. The only way to see it is
if you change the view to unfiltered. I did not even realize that was an
option until today. I suspect that is why I have 0 downloads. Any idea what
it takes to move it from Unfiltered to Moderate?

Can you provide us with a link to your template along with the steps you are
using for attempting to find it?

Beth -

You can get to the area that includes my template here (Multi Year Calendar):

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/CT101424401033.aspx

By default the "Community Filter" option to the left was on moderate. When
I change this to "unfiltered" then I can see my template (Perpetual Calendar
with Holidays):

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/TC300060261033.aspx?CategoryID=CT101424401033

I am really curious what qualifies as "Strict", "Moderate" or "Unfiltered".
I have no macro's, no personal information, just a spreadsheet. I would like
to know what caused it to only display in the "unfiltered" area.

Thanks in adavance for any insight,

David

From the FAQ:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/HA101695371033.aspx

"After some time has passed and it has been downloaded enough times, your
template will appear on the default view of the site."

It sounds as though not enough time has passed and it hasn't been
downloaded. Well, it's been downloaded now at least once by me. :)

Strict means there are no Community Submitted templates in the results.
Moderate includes Community Submitted templates that have enough downloads
and the appropriate time has passed (how many downloads and what the
'appropriate time' is I don't know), and of course Unfiltered includes
everything.

Thanks Beth that helps.

I know this is not your area, but...

I think the way things are setup really reduces the number of templates that
a user will see. It is buried in the menu choices and should be made more
prominate when drilling down to the template type.

The types of Strict, Moderate, Unfiltered seems to imply some security
concerns (and maybe that is the intent) but it can make a user scared to move
to unfiltered. I have been downloading templates for many years from MS and
did not relize that restriction was on. Greatly increased the number of
templates I now have available :).

OK, enough griping...

If truth be told I was against the Community Submitted templates when the
idea was presented. I won't go into all of the reasons why I was against it,
but in the end I think the way they are handled is a good compromise --
essentially the community decides which templates are made available by
default by building trust in the community as a result of downloads and
ratings.

Give it time. If you think about it, if this method didn't work then you
wouldn't see any Community Submitted templates at all. :)
