my title text runneth over

I am using office 2003. When I or anyone else enters "too much text" into
the title on a new slide (using the master of course) , I find that ppt does
NOT do a good job of resizing to keep the text within the text box. Autofit
is on. This is unlike when adding text into the body of a slide; ppt will
resize down to nothing to keep all the text on the screen. Why can't ppt do
the same with titles? I do a lot of manual resizing to get text to fit in
titles - why must I?
