My visio file cant open

I'm trying to open my visio file but it displays a msg "Visio cannot open the
file because its not a visio file".. I have been working on the file and
saving it under the visio file extension .vsd.

Have you been working on the file using Visio or have you been using
some other program and forcing the extension to .vsd?
