My web preview does not show graphics or format.

I'm using Publisher 2003 for the first time. I use the Web Site Builder to
create a small web site. When I switch to Web Page Preview, the preview looks
completely different. The graphics are not shown and page alignment is
nothing like on the page I created. How come? How can I get a web site that
looks like what I am designing in the Web Builder? Please help.

As you are discovering, designing a web page is different than a print
document. For example, if you are using word wrap, this does not work in a
Publisher web document. Perhaps start by running the Design Checker under
Tools. This will find many of the problems with your design. You may need to
experiment with moving the different page elements around until you get the
alignment you want. You should also review the FAQ at:
http://www.publishermvps.com/WebDesign/FAQ/tabid/30/Default.aspx

Then if you still have problems, post back with the specifics.

Thank you for your response, David. Well, I understand all that and have
reviewed the FAQ's, etc. What confuses me is that I can go to Web Site
Builder and choose the easiest web site template. Then immediately do a web
page preview and none of the elements such as color or graphics are
displayed. If that simple template won't display properly then clearly my
more complicated web site designe won't display. Print preview works fine,
email preview works fine (I can email my web site design perfectly) so there
must be something fundemental that I'm missing.

Ken,

Do you have problems viewing graphics in a print document? Have you emptied
your temp internet folders? Under IE > Tools > Internet Options > Delete
Files. Also, perhaps under IE > Tools > Advanced > Multimedia > check show
images.

If none of those things work, then to quote Mary Sauer:

"Sounds like a video driver issue.
Try this, slide the acceleration down on your adapter, control panel,
display, settings tab, advanced button, troubleshoot tab. (About three
notches)
If this solves your issue, go to the manufacturer's web site and look around
for an updated graphics driver."

Publisher is very picky about video drivers, so even if your computer is
fairly new, this might be the issue. DavidF

Hi David and again thanks a bunch for your help. No, I have not had any
problems viewing graphics in any format with any program. Only this current
issue. Yes, I emptied my temp folder. No difference. Multimedia has all
options checked. I did reduce the slider under advanced video. No difference.
I wonder if you would consider letting me email you my website and see if it
shows in your system? That would answer some questions. You can email me at
(e-mail address removed) with your email address and I'll send you the .pub
file. Thanks again!

Depends on how big the file is? If I can time the download when I am at my
office then no problem, but I am a cheapskate at home and get by with a $8 a
month dial up connection.

And in the meantime, do check for an updated driver. I know it might not
make sense to you, but it might very well be the issue, especially since you
say it happens even with the simple templates.

I had another thought...you are using IE as your default browser right? Pub
2003 web pages don't enjoy good cross browser support, so if you are using
Firefox, that might also be the problem.

Well, I'm making progress. By the way, yes, I am using IE6.0. I installed
Publisher on my new HP laptop and my website previewed just fine! So you're
probably right; must be something in my graphics although I thought I had the
latest driver. Maybe I'll just buy a new video card and see what happens.
Anyway, now I have to learn how to upload my site. Anyway, thanks for your
patience and help.
