My Word Program has quit working.

every time I try to use an Office Program, especially Word, I get the
following popup: "This document could not be registered, it is not possible
to create links from other documents to this document"
I have no idea what this means? I cannot creat Word documents, or save them
either. It just flat out quit working. Why?
