MYOB, Mail-Merge & Office 2004

MYOB Accounting software has a 'mail merge' function which always worked
with previous versions of MS Office. With Office 2004 however, this mail
merge function no loner works. Does anyone know why or can suggest a fix
for this problem?

How did it use to work? As a source, to pull data from the Office address
book? Explain in more detail--though, probably, we'll just tell you to ask
MYOB. But no one can even conceive of a workaround without knowing
specifically what you are asking for.

What would happen was that you could call up a list of debtors for example,
tick those who needed a letter sent to them, and MYOB would request which
letter was sent. The letters were (and still are) Word docs stored within.
MYOB. When the appropriated document was selected, Word would open, request
the name and position of the sender, and then the letters were printed with
the MYOB date inserted. This always worked fine until Office 2004 was
installed. Now, MYOB goes through the motions, Word opens, but the sender's
name is not requested and the data not inserted. MYOB are aware of the
problem and they blame Microsoft - anything but accept the blame (or find a
fix) themselves.

Hi Graham:

I would back MYOB on this one. Microsoft has made some changes to the
underlying mechanisms in word that alter how Mail Merge works.

You could fix this by fixing the documents in MYOB. However, I would need
complete details from OB as to "How" they have implemented this. If you
know enough to be able to dig the Mail Merge Main Document and the Data
Source Document out of MYOB and can send them to me, I will have a look and
see if I can figure out how they are doing this.

Or if MYOB are willing to share the technical details of the mechanism they
use and precisely what is failing, I can maybe find a work-around for you.

cheers
